mission accomplished!
Well, thanks for your help. They are officially called "Bamileke Feather Headdress", so I was sort of on the right track - gee they are expensive, but effective I think.
see more here if you would like to buy one. I am a little obsessed by them. Also called 'Tsa Ntang Disc' they are traditionally worn by royal dancers of the Kuosi Society during important ceremonies held by the Chief. Originally made from parrot feathers, a symbol of prosperity, they are seen as rare objects of beauty possessing the positive qualities of birds.
