I saw this coat rack in Megan Morton's lovely book, Homelove, at the time it was the most beautiful thing I had seen in a long time - I recently stumbled across it again, in some online store - now just to remember where..................................can anyone help?????

She's gone

I was chatting to Heather last week and saying that one of my very favorite stylists, Megan Morton had been very quite of late, her blog had not been updated since February and it was very unusual. You may recall, I interviewed her for my blog here, she was such a lovely lady who was so willing to share her knowledge and wisdom. I thought Heather may have some inside information being involved in the industry, turns out she has moved overseas. Her fabulously styled house is up for sale in Lane Cove Sydney - check out the listing here.

colour makes me happy

I have had this fish hanging on my Inspiration Board at home, it is just lovely to look at, made by the very clever Mr M!

My DIY project

here is a very easy but effective DIY project. Take one glass vase and one $3 potted flower from Bunnings, fill glass vase with water, remove plant from ugly plastic pot and look what you get, much nicer to look at!

cushions and me

all images Polly Wreford

today I am dreaming about beautiful cushions to furnish my lounge, a recent obsession of mine.......cushions are really like magic to a room, they add a layer of colour, texture and character. I am not into matching, rather I think it's far more interesting to collect and gather the ones that you love, pile them high and create a place that you will be happy to put your feet up in.....thats my plan anyway, just another thing to keep me busy.

setting the mood and scaling down the options

this week I have been helping a friend of mine do some decorating to her recently renovated house. The house has been extended and looks amazing, pretty much a blank canvas to start working on. It has been painted Dulux Antique White (always a good choice!!) and now needs some finishing touches. I find the easiest way to do this is to get clients to think about the things they love, use those pieces/colours and then add to them. Bringing colour and texture into an all white interior adds personality and the WOW factor. There are so many choices out there and it is little wonder people get confused. I find by scaling down the choices and documenting a look, a style or even a single piece you like, helps you to stay on track and get the results you want.

Sometimes decorating is also about compromising and taking into account that you usually share your home with other people..........mainly husbands, and that you quite often have to sell you ideas to them. For this particular house the client wanted a green feature wall in her study. We choose an Apple Green color from Bristol - it was fun and sophisticated and looked amazing in the light and airy room, but, and yes there is almost always a but.....her husband did not buy in on it, so we compromised and decided on a Grey wall - Dulux Tranquil Retreat (very popular at the moment) and I suggested a green Eames Chair - happy husband, happy client!!!

school update

Last week at school we started to learn about the Design Elements, in particular we focused on Point, Line, shape and Form. We looked at a number of images and identified each of the elements, it was loads of fun. We then had to gather a number of images for our visual diaries and point out the elements - "He" called this homework - I call it, just what I love to do. Kx

bedroom makeover peep

last week I mentioned that I had a bedroom makeover I was working on, well here is a little peep......... I have chosen these glitzy numbers from Aura, they work beautifully together. Not sure if I mentioned the color palette, it neutrals with some glitz, its coming together nicely, just need to source some over sized lamps - I think I will try to get something second hand for a steal and make them over.

the people you meet

on Friday I was lucky enough to meet the very lovely and talented Heather Nette King - she is a freelance interiors stylist and writer for lots of home magazines and papers, apart from being just a lovely person, her work will make you crawl with job envy. She appears to be the most busiest lady I have met, but somehow manages to make time for little people like me. The lovely Heather and Salvation Jane (aka Jane Hall) will be at Magnolia Square this weekend in Ivanhoe for a revamp extraordinaire! If you get time, pop in and see her, I will be.xxxx

bedroom art inspiration

page from an old InsideOut mag that is now sitting in my visual diary.

who said art had to be all about canvas and paint/print. I am in love with this Kimono, I have a girlfriend, who would love this, I would even goes as far as saying that she could make this very easily. This would look perfect in my latest bedroom makeover......

my work

here is some of my recent styling work, just playing and learning with the help of a friends very expensive and fabulous camera........

bedroom makeover

I saw this bedroom in an old InsideOut Mag at school last week and fell in love with its simplicity, I especially like the Marrimekko Blind - simple but oohh so effective......

I am working on a little bedroom makeover at the moment, and I have just finalised the colour palette, charcoal, white and a neutral brown with a pop of yellow - very exciting, the room has lacked punch and been a bit of a nothing room, but that is all about to change - before and after pics to come soon. Now that I have decided on the color palette, it a matter of tracking down what I need, I want lots of texture. I stopped buy here, here, and here and even looked on line here, but nothing is jumping out at me just yet, but now that I have my mind set on the colors, I am keen to get it finalised.

it pays to get out and about.....

if you love a truly great burger, and lets face it who doesn't, then you need to get yourself a Burger from the Beatbox Truck, they are THE best thing going around, expect a little wait, but well worth it!!! They also have a Taco Truck cruising the streets of Melbourne - what a fabulous idea. Follow them on Facebook for up to date locations each day - do yourself a favour and track them down.

school update

well, the holiday is over and it was back to school this week for some 2D action and moodboard creating, I love doing moodboards -but I am sure you already know that!!!! I am loving this new subject, very creative compared to my last subject, Building and Construction. Its all about visual diaries and creating boards from things you love and pulling stories and concepts together - this is my idea of heaven..........ohh by the way, Fiji was paradise, we loved every minute of it!!! This is my mood board which I pulled together on Monday night, very quickly, all based around the oriental picture in the middle that was on my moodboard at home, I am really happy with it......
